Marlin 39a serial number dates
I am a bit confused on what is the correct serial number prefix code for either a 39A or 39M lever action rifle that was made in 1962. One source says it is W and one says V. Does anyone know the definite correct letter prefix for a 1962 39A or 39M. ThanksIf you do have a 39A, and not a 39, the serial number's were either on the lower tang under the lever, or on the top tang, depending on the vintage. If you do not have the numbers there then it's possible it's been removed during a refinish-rebluing. Try pulling the buttstock off and look on the sides of the tangs. The serial numbers were ... The serial number range indicates it was made prior to 1915, but it could be a Marlin Model 1892 (.32 Colt), Model 1894 (.32-20), or a Model 1893 (.32-40 or .32 H.P.S.).
