Self dmg is easy to exploit, I killed 3 people with it today, or should I say they killed themselves. It gets like a 65/35 physical/elemental split instead of 50/50. Its intended for dex builds. Dark Bead, Crystal Soul Spear and Crystal Homing Soul Mass are the best spells for PVP. You could also use Crystal Magic Weapon and buff a +15 Balder Sword. The best way to counter the damage done by the chaos blade is simply grabbing every Firekeeper Soul you can, and having high Vitality pool so that it doesn't affect you too much. If it's your first playthrough you may be better served by an Uchigatana +15 or Washing Pole +15. It doesn't require 10 humanity to reach maximum damage and can be buffed. Obtain it by trading the boss soul from Mytha, the Baneful Queen to Straid of Olaphis. It upgrades with Petrified Dragon Bones, requiring 15 in total to go from +0 to +5. It has a base attack rating of 100. It has B scaling in Dexterity. At 40 Dexterity with RoB+2 it's attack rating is 209. It has a poison rating of 100.Anyway as far as chaos blade goes I wouldn't use it much in pve for clearing mobs. It does tons of damage though if you do a ring of blades +2 and flynn's ring combo (464 pure physical AR at 40 dex) but the self damage might bite.
